Mary Anne Balthrope, trails mentor and friend, passed Feb. 12, 2016

2/16/2016

Long time equestrian Maryanne Balthrope passed away Friday, Feb 12th, not recovering from complications of emergency heart valve surgery.

Mary Anne Balthrope was a long time member of the Folsom Lake Mounted Trail Patrol and its non-profit, California Conservation of Trails. She was a Zone Chairperson for the Mounted Patrol for many years, as well as a "New Member" guide so people could learn the steps necessary to become a Mounted Patrol volunteer. In 1997 she was elected as the treasurer of both the Mounted Patrol and California Conservation of Trails and was re-elected unopposed for 17 years.

She was a founding member of LARK, and many years member of the Western States Trail Foundation, Sweeps Riders of the Sierra (SOS). She taught everyone on those groups about ham radio protocol and managing net control.

OBITUARY
Mary Anne Balthrope
It is with great sadness the Balthrope Family announces the passing of long time Elk Grove resident Mary Anne Balthrope. Mary Anne passed after a sudden illness on Friday February 12th, 2016 with her loving husband Robert Balthrope and her daughter by her side.

Mary Anne was born March 22nd, 1932 in Fitchburg Massachusetts. She moved to California in the early 60’s where she dedicated her life to her children Carolyn and Martin. It was in Freemont where she met her husband Robert Balthrope, shortly after this union the newlyweds moved to Elk Grove, California.

During her time in Elk Grove, she dedicated herself to her family and the family’s small farm. Once the children moved away, she developed a relationship with her beloved horse Coco. Mary Anne spent many hours volunteering with amateur radio clubs and horse clubs. She was active with the River City ARCS (Mary Anne KE6EST), Sweep Riders of the Sierra, Foothills Radio Group, Western States Trail Ride, and Folsom Lake Patrol.

Although slight in stature Mary Anne’s passing has left a huge void in her family and all the many friends she has touched. Mary Anne is survived by her husband of 37 years Robert Balthrope of Elk Grove, her children Carolyn Hendrick and Martin Swisher, step-children -Robert Balthrope Jr, Robin Morgan, James Balthrope, grandchildren-Alexis, Cody, Tyler and Taylor and great grand children- Riley, Claire and Kinsley

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 27th, 2016 at 2:30 hours at Carlton Plaza located a 6915 Elk Grove Blvd. Elk Grove, Ca 95758.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to Sweep Riders of the Sierra, PO Box 8065
Auburn, CA 95603, in Mary Anne’s memory.
