The Placer County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved new parking restrictions near two popular recreation areas - Lake Clementine and Hidden Falls Regional Park - where overflow roadside parking threatens public safety.
The areas of concern are along narrow, county-maintained roads near the parks. The move follows numerous safety complaints from area residents, park staff and the California Highway Patrol.
At Clementine, parking is now restricted on the Lake Clementine Road approach to the park. At Hidden Falls, parking is restricted for one mile of Mt. Vernon Road in each direction from its intersection with Mears Drive. The restrictions prohibit parking any time and take effect immediately.
At the California State Parks-managed Lake Clementine, parking along Lake Clementine Road can block access by emergency vehicles, as well as larger vehicles towing boats.
At Hidden Falls, a county-owned park, Mt. Vernon Road’s narrow shoulders force visitors who park roadside and walk to the park to walk along a busy stretch of road.
In approving the ordinance, supervisors urged staff to report back on other alternatives to relieve the burden on the existing available parking at Hidden Falls.
