HR 622 titled the “Local Enforcement for Local Lands Act”, proposes to terminate the law enforcement functions of the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and to provide block grants to States for the local enforcement of Federal law on Federal land under the jurisdiction of these agencies, and for other purposes.
This bill is introduced by Mr. Chaffetz (for himself, Mr. Stewart, Mrs. Love, Mr. LaMalfa (CA), Mr. Amodei, Mr. McClintock (CS), and Mr. Gosar) and  was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources, and in addition to the Committee on Agriculture, The complete bill text can be accessed HERE.
The bill is opposed by Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
FLEOA wrote a letter to Chaffetz on 2/1/17 which included the following statement: “This legislation will place both public and federal workers at risk. It will embolden those who view federal public lands as an intrusion on their constitutional rights. It will lead to further hostilities and encounters such as those recently played out the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.”
In support of the bill is This West is our West, a group who states "Our country, particularly in the Western States, is under siege from federal government over-reach, expansion of tribalism as a governing system removing state jurisdiction and protection of its citizens, international/global agendas—all working with separate but congruent goals that are clearly unsettling the West."
According to ProPublica and MapLight the website that tracks donations for and against legislation, $2,883,023 have been raised against this legislation by environmental, fishing, police and firefighting unions, and legislators who oppose this bill. There has been $0 donated from anyone or organization who supports this bill.
