High water concerns from State Parks about people getting too close and falling into what is unforgiving turbulent whitewater.
“We’re urging people to stay away from the river,” Auburn State Recreation Area acting superintendent Mike Howard said today. “If someone slips and falls into the river, we can’t save them. It’s unlikely they’ll survive.”
Howard said that rangers were concerned about kayakers attempting to ride the turbulent waters of the north fork on Sunday. Fortunately the kayakers, who put in off the Iowa Hill Road bridge at Mineral Bar, decided to discontinue their dangerous course and safely hiked out downstream, he said.
