Before 2014, Gold Country Trails Council funded this Port-a-Potty. Their Board asked other trails groups and State Parks to help them fund what they thought was a necessary amendment to the Park, but they hit a brick wall. Three years ago Gold Country Trails Council decided they could no longer bear the high annual expense alone, so they pulled the the plug.
Laura Berman, who regularly rode her horse on the park trails, was concerned about the lack of toilet facilities at the most popular trail head in the county, Penn Gate. After some research and obtaining agreement from California State Parks Sierra District office, she discovered she could arrange for delivery and donate the funds.
Starting May 11 through October 5, 2017, the Empire Mine Penn Gate Port-a-Potty returns! Ms. Berman is funding a full-size, ADA-approved bathroom throughout the hiking and riding season until mid-October.
There is a sign on the convenience with Ms. Berman’s phone number and web address and she hopes the folks who will be using it will be so happy they will call her for their real estate needs, too.
Thank you, Laura Berman of United Country-Great West Real Estate, our Port-a-Potty Fairy!
