Located on the Bear Yuba Land Trust's Woodpecker Wildlife Preserve, the Orene Wetherall Trail is known by residents of Banner Mountain as a place to view birds and spend time in nature. A landslide created by winter storms closed steep sections of the trail for several months. On April 20, Land Trust staff and six volunteers removed the slide and reopened the trail.
"We have our hands full cleaning up our trails because of the wet winter. It was great to finally get out there and get this beloved trail open again," said Land Access Manager Shaun Clarke.
The crew worked most of the morning. They shoveled soil, removed a large stump blocking the trail and transplanted vegetation to stabilize the hillside.
